UFCW Local 401 • Red Deer, Alberta
United We Stand, Divided We Fall
The UFCW Local 401 Multicultural Solidarity Group brings workers together through meetings in Red Deer to share experiences, build solidarity, and strengthen participation in union life.
These meetings are the heart of the group. They are where members come together, speak openly, build confidence, and strengthen solidarity across cultures within UFCW Local 401.
This group exists because many workers come from immigrant and racialised backgrounds and may face additional barriers in the workplace. These barriers can include language differences, cultural differences, isolation, or uncertainty about speaking up.
In some cases, workers may feel more comfortable speaking within their own group and less comfortable speaking in front of others. This is normal. The purpose of this group is not to force anything, but to create an environment where confidence grows naturally and every voice becomes stronger over time.
The goal is simple: to make sure every member feels supported, included, and able to participate fully in union life.

About
The Multicultural Solidarity Group is part of UFCW Local 401 and exists to support members from all backgrounds.
It is important to understand that the union is not a separate entity. The union is its members. Every worker is part of it, and every worker contributes to its strength.
By building stronger connections between members, the group helps ensure that no one feels isolated or disconnected from the union.
Why It Matters
When workers feel unsure about speaking up, the entire union becomes weaker. When workers feel confident, included, and supported, the union becomes stronger.
This group helps remove barriers and build that confidence step by step.
It creates a space where members can share experiences, learn from one another, and build trust across cultures.
Stronger communication leads to stronger unity. Stronger unity leads to a stronger union.
